How many bundles do I need for a full head with closure, frontal, 360 frontal or with leave out?
The number one question that our clients ask is, “How many bundles do I need for a full sew in?”
The type of hair affects how many bundles you need to achieve your desired hairstyle. Straight hair is usually less dense than curly hair, so you’ll need more bundles for a fuller look.
Be sure to consider the length you want as well. As a general rule the longer the length of your hair extensions the more bundles you will need because bundles of less hair contain a shorter weft, also known as the track.
Three bundles for a full sew-in typically the magic number.
With three bundles anywhere from 14″ — 20″ your weave will be full, flowy, and glamorous. Anything less, 2 bundles would be perfect. If your sew-in bundle is starting with lengths over 22″ you might want to consider four bundles to five bundles.
What is closure?
A closure is a section of lace, filled with hair, used to “close off” a sew-in, or a wig.
Lace closures can be sewed or glued into place. Closures can be purchased in a three part, middle part, or free part.
- Free Part Closure — this closure has the ability to be parted however desired,
- Middle Part Closure — this closure is the most popular closure. It has a pre-plucked middle part within the closure.
- Three Part Closure — this closure has three pre-plucked parts that is mostly used to create the “2 braid/twist” at the front of your head.
Lace closures come in many different textures and lengths to match your extensions.
A skilled stylist can make a lace closure look very natural, regardless of the length and texture.
Typically 3–5 bundles are used to achieve a full sewin.
What is a frontal?
A frontal is a hair finishing piece, for a full head of weave.
You will not have to leave out any of your own hair with a frontal hair closure.
This 13″ by 4″ lace piece covers the front section of the head from ear to ear.
The lace is placed against the edge of the hairline giving you the look of natural growth from the root.
Typically 2–4 bundles are needed for a full head sewin with a lace frontal.
What is a 360 frontal?
A 360 Lace Frontal is a hairpiece that recreates the hairline around the entire perimeter of your head so that you can wear ponytails etc with your sewing in.
This isn’t a wig but can be used to make a wig or for a hair weave you just add the bundles to the middle. It goes around the whole head so you can put it in a ponytail, and part anywhere too.
Typically with a 360 frontal, only 2–3 bundles of extensions are needed.
Is three bundles and a closure enough?
What length bundles should I get? how much hair comes in a bundle? Anywhere the bundles length from 16-20 or 22 inches, you need 3 bundle deals; How many bundles for a wig? Anything past that, you need 4 bundles; And this is all with a leave out or a closure. If you going for a short hairstyle, you typically only need 2 bundles and this is for if you have leave out or a 4×4 closure.
How many bundles is 150% density? Or how many bundles is 180 density? There are two ways you can install your bundles. You can either opt for a sew-in, which is easier to maintain, more affordable, and can typically last for about six months, or the glue and tape methods. The glue method involves the use of liquid adhesive directly on the hair. And for the tape method, one to two wefts with double-sided tape is attached to the hair.
Whether you are going for a sew-in or any other hair extension styles, knowing how many bundles with a frontal you need to achieve various bundles hairstyles is a key factor.
how many bundles do i need with a closure? A pack of bundles is usually a full 4 ounces, and the amount of bundles you will need is largely dependent on the desired style, preferred volume, and the quality of the bundles themselves. Also, if you want a shorter length, you won’t require as many bundles as you would if you are going for a longer style.
Curly Full Sew In With Bangs
How many bundles do you need for a sew in bundles with closure? Curly hair usually has more density and does not necessarily need so many bundles to get a full look. For a full natural look. 2-3 bundles can be used. If you are going for a longer length. you should opt for 3-4 bundles. Unlike other sew-ins, curly tracks have little space between them, this means that when you get a full sew-in without using the required amount of bundles and it isn’t full enough, you will begin to see your braids in between the spaces. Also, the curly full sew in bundleswith bangs style allows you to be versatile in styling your hair in a variety of ways.
Straight Sew In
Straight hairstyles are less dense than curly styles and would require more bundles to achieve a fuller look. Depending on the length, 3-4 bundles are recommended in order to pull off a straight sew-in look. If you are going for a straight sew-in frontal with a length over 22″, you will need to use a maximum of 3 bundles. This is because lace frontals are 13×4 inches and will require fewer hair bundles than the lace closure which is 4×4 inches. To achieve a full look, you will need from 2-3 bundles with a lace frontal and from 3-4 bundles with a lace closure.
At the very beginning, we would like to introduce the basic knowledge in the hair industry. Now the hair extensions industry has standardized hair wefts bundles. In practical terms, it is the shorter the hair is, the longer the weft will be. And the longer the hair is, the shorter the weft will be. Let’s see the picture below. The hair bundle length on the left is 30 inches while the one on the right is 10 inches. If you take a good look at these two bundles, you can see that 30 inches is smaller than 10 inches. That’s because they both are the same amount of hair (100gram) and the longer the hair, the shorter the wefts. To be more exact, they weigh the same, but obviously, if the hair is shorter, you are going to get more wefts. Opposite, if the hair is longer, you are going to get fewer wefts.
Should I get all my bundles the same length?
The length of bundles. If you want a very full look of similar lengths you should get most of your hair the same length. To get a layered look all the lengths can be different but should remain in ascending order, for example, 14”, 16”, and 18”… inches in bundles. If you are buying longer than 22” we generally advise the fourth bundle of hair may be required.
1. Hair bundles with lace closure
That being said, if you are going for a shorter hairstyle like a bob, you typically only need about 2 hair bundles. This is for if you install your weave with closure. My general rule of thumb is if you have bundles anywhere from 8 inches to about 14 inches, you only need 2 bundles.
If you are going to get bundles longer than 14 inches, like 16 inches to 20 inches, you need three bundles. anything past that you need 4 bundles.
You need to be careful when you are getting to the 20 inches because sometimes people will think okay, I’ll just get 3 bundles of 22 inches and that will be fine. It could be fine but the thing is obviously your hair is going to be scanty because 3 bundles of 22 inches is not going to be the same as 18, 20, and 22 because you are going to get more wefts with the 18, 20, and the 22inches bundle and look thicker.
The tricky thing about hair that is longer than 22 inches is that the longer your hair is, the more scanty or thinner it becomes, so you’d better double up on the longest length. For example, let’s say I was getting a 20, 22,24, and 26. I personally would recommend that you get a 20, 22, 24, and 24. When you double up on the longest length, it is fuller. This is just to have a normal-looking fullness. If you want really full and thick, then past 22 inches, I would recommend 5 bundles. I know it could be a bit pricey, but if you want your hair to be really thick, 5 or 6 bundles is what you need with closure.
|Hair Length||Normal Look||Fuller Look|
|8-14 inches||2 bundles||3 bundles|
|16-20 inches||3 bundles||4 bundles|
|22-30 inches||4 bundles||5 to 6 bundles|
What length you need?
2. Hair bundles with lace frontal
When you are using a frontal, that’s a little bit different because the frontal is from ear to ear. Obviously, it covers more span than lace closure. My rule of thumb is if you are getting anywhere from 8 to 18 inches, 2 bundles will suffice and for anything past 16 inches, I would suggest getting 3 bundles. From 16 or 18 to about 20 to 24 inches, 3 bundles are good for you. For example, if you are doing a frontal and you want your longest length to be 24 inches, then you can get a frontal and then 20, 22, and 24, which should suffice. For a hair bundles past 24 inches, I would definitely use 4 bundles.
In a lot of time, you guys want to buy long frontal and honestly, it is not necessary because when you buy your bundles, you buy it in increments of 2. they are layered. So why are you going to buy a 20 inches frontal and your bundles are like 18, 20 and 22. It just doesn’t make any sense. Anyways, the front of your hair is usually shorter.
|Length||Normal Look||Fuller Look|
|8-18 inches||2 bundles||2 bundles|
|16-24 inches||3 bundles||4 bundles|
|26-30 inches||4 bundles||5 bundles|
What To Consider Before Choosing A Hair Length
Your hair type plays a major role in how long or short your hair appears. If you have naturally straight hair, your strands will look their actual length. If you have waves or curls, however, your hair may appear a bit shorter than it actually is. This is because the kinks and bends in your hair can cause it to look slightly shorter. If you have a textured hair type, you should ask for a cut slightly longer than your goal length.
Certain haircuts are more flattering on certain face shapes, so it’s essential to identify which one is right for you before you commit to a new length. If you want to find the best haircut for your face shape, click here for our full guide.
When it comes to cutting your hair, keep your long-term hair goals in mind. You won’t want to cut six inches off of your mane if you’re aiming to achieve waist-length hair.
How do you describe your hair length?

If you’re struggling to describe the hair length you want to your stylist, take a look at the chart above. You can use a hair length chart to figure out what length you desire.
